Obituary

Alex Joe Martinez, a lifelong resident of Fresno, California, passed away on October 23, 2026, at the age of 72. Born in Fresno on October 13, 1954, Alex grew up in a loving and traditional Catholic home that was focused on family. Those foundations shaped Alex into remarkably generous, loving man that prioritized family above all else. It was his involvement with family and his love for life and adventure that sparked passion for many hobbies and accomplishments throughout his life. In his youth At 15 years old, he played bass guitar and sang lead vocals for his band “United We Stand” famously rocking his ninth-grade sock hop. His passions ran deep with dedicated participation in the Boy Scouts, baseball, wrestling and football in high school lead to lifelong love for football. He also possessed a deep appreciation for classic American engineering, spending his younger days immersed in the world of muscle cars and hot rods. Always an adventurous soul his careers varied from Lineman to his professional calling at Gallo Winery where he retired after decades of dedication and hard work.

An avid outdoorsman, Alex felt entirely at home in nature. Hunting in his youth and a life time love of fishing, he knew the local mountain trails like the back of his hand. Alex exuded an outgoing personality and magnetic confidence that naturally drew people to him, earning him a vast circle of lifelong friends who remember him with nothing but deep affection and respect. Yet, for all his athletic feats, musical talents, and his famously booming voice, Alex’s defining feature was his massive heart. He loved helping people, constantly going out of his way to ensure the next person was safe, happy, and taken care of. This profound capacity for love and duty was mirrored in his later years, during which he devoted himself to lovingly care for both of his parents until their passings. Alex’s legacy of kindness, joy, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
