Ambrose Ruiz Macias, 86, of Selma, California, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 31, 2026, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren at his side.

Ambrose, lovingly known as "Amby," was born on December 7, 1939, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Desiderio and Maria Macias. He spent his early childhood in Sheridan before moving with his family to Selma, California, at the age of six. Ambrose attended Washington Middle School, where he enjoyed participating in various sports and excelled in athletics. It was there that he met the love of his life, Dolores "Lola" Orozco. Their long friendship eventually grew into a devoted and lasting marriage of 65 years.

Ambrose attended Selma High School, where he distinguished himself as a talented pitcher for the Selma Bears. Following graduation, he was given the opportunity to be drafted into the New York Yankees farm system. After several years, he returned to Selma to marry Dolores and begin raising their family.

Ambrose worked for West Coast Growers for 42 years and later at Sun-Maid, retiring in 2001. In retirement, he devoted his time to his greatest passion—fishing. He especially enjoyed trips to Kaweah Lake, the Kings River, Avocado Lake, and Pine Flat. He also cherished time spent with his brothers, cousins, and extended family, whether fishing, barbecuing, hunting, or camping in the Sequoias, Mammoth Lakes, and along the coast.

Ambrose will be remembered for his toughness and stern demeanor; however, those who knew him well understood that he was deeply loving, generous, and fiercely protective of his family and loved ones.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dolores Macias; his son, Ambrose Macias Jr., and daughter-in-law, Cathy Macias; his daughters, Monica "Moni" Caudillo and Kathy Alatorre; and his six grandchildren: Michelle Mora (husband Armando Mora), Alexandria Stemple (husband Jacob Stemple), Mitchell Caudillo, Sam-Noah Cadreil, Jacob Alatorre, and Katelyn Alatorre. He is also survived by his four great-grandchildren: Manuel Mora, Matthew Mora, Marcus Mora, and Jade Stemple; his sisters, Connie "Concha" Castanon and Isabelle Ramirez; and many nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary & Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at St. Joseph's Church in Selma, California, with a graveside service to follow.
