Obituary

Beth C. Ashby passed away in Prather, California, on October 2, 2023. She was 95. Born and raised in Ogden, Utah, she participated in school clubs and became an accomplished pianist.

She married Jack Ashby following World War II on October 16, 1946. Jack and Beth raised their family in Portland, The Dalles, and Eugene,

Oregon. In Eugene, they owned and operated Ashby's Ice Cream. They moved to Fresno in 1971 when IRS opened a new service center.

As someone who grew up during the Great Depression, Beth knew the value of a nickel. She became a champion coupon-cutter and deal-finder.

Also, a woman of strong personality, Beth sought excellence. She frowned upon the unwashed, uncombed, lazy, timid, dispassionate, indecisive, or picky eater. With power and blazing eyes, she could turn a roomful of rioting Sunday School children into a docile band of angels. She did not suffer scammers or fools either.

She could whistle enthusiastically through her teeth and fill up the theater with her laugh. She delighted in daily crossword puzzles, holidays, parades, the American flag, music of any kind, and good food. She won 'awards for her pie baking, made outstanding candy, and must have baked over one million chocolate chip cookies for Jack.

Beth established deep, long-lasting friendships everywhere she went, but her family was her life. She continued to acknowledge her 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren's birthdays to the end.

Beth is survived by her children Guy Ashby (Kathy), Meredith Ashby Fowler (Don), and Gail Ashby McLelland (Stephen), Phil Christensen (Brother), Leslee Weaver (Niece), Larry Thomson (Nephew), Mary Myers (Niece) and Mona Ashby (Former Daughter-in-law).

A remembrance of her life will be held at the Don Fowler residence at 28715 Auberry Road., Prather, California, on October14, at 2:10 p.m.
