Obituary

Conway K. W. Woo, DDS was born on December 23, 1937 in Savannah, GA and died peacefully at home in Fresno, CA on July 28, 2024. He was the son of Jack and Anne Woo. He grew up in Savannah and later moved to Fresno with his parents and sister in 1957 at the age of 20. He attended Fresno State College where he completed his undergraduate degree before advancing to Northwestern University in Chicago, IL to pursue his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. After achieving his DDS degree, he spent time in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Misawa, Japan. After his tour, he returned to Fresno and established his dental practice that he operated until his retirement in July 2020. He loved and was proud of his career in dentistry and providing care for his patients.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying snow skiing, tennis, hunting, and skeet shooting. He always wanted to be active and remain in good physical shape, which he did by working out daily at Sierra Sport & Racquet Club, of which he was a member since its opening in 1976. But his real passion and joy in life was fishing, which he gained from his father, who was quite the fisherman. He enjoyed river fishing, then lake fishing and ultimately ocean fishing. He went on numerous, long-range, deep sea fishing trips off the coast of San Diego and Baja, California, as well as spending many years going over to Monterey, CA where he would fish for salmon, albacore tuna, ling and rock cod and occasionally he would bring home crabs and squid when they were in season. He would happily share his fish bounty with friends and family, as he would routinely catch more than he could eat. For decades, he would famously organize "fish dinners" at local Chinese restaurants each week for his friends and family.

While he was not an extravagant traveler, he did enjoy immensely his annual trips with Carol to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Conway loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of 57 years and his 2 children: Darren, and his wife, Trudy, and Doreen, and her husband, Todd, granddaughter, Chloe, and grandson, Colton. He is also survived by his sister, Jeannine Wang, and her family, as well as many cousins in the Bay Area and Georgia.

Remembrances may be made to Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, 5711 N. West Ave, Fresno, CA 93711. There are no services planned.
