Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Darol Lloyd, who passed away on May 7, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born in Blytheville, Arkansas, Darol was the seventh of eight children. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Arkansas. During a visit to California, he met the love of his life, Mellie, at Central Gardens Baptist Church in Lynwood, California. Soon after, they were married, and Darol transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he continued his education, graduating with his Bachelor of Science, and began building the life they would share for the next 70 years.

Darol began his career in education, teaching at Caruthers High School, before finding his lifelong professional home at Wilbur-Ellis, where he worked for more than 35 years as Manager of Pesticides. He loved his work, and it opened doors for Darol and Mellie to travel extensively, creating treasured memories both abroad and at home.

A man of many passions, Darol embraced life fully. He enjoyed sailing and made cherished memories with family and friends at the Fresno Yacht Club. He also returned to his agricultural roots, farming grapes in California’s Central Valley for many years. Later in life, he rekindled his love of golf and became a charter member of Copper River Country Club, where he built lifelong friendships.

Darol was a man deeply rooted in faith, family, humor and love. He made humorous remarks right up to the end, bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. Cooking was another of his passions and he was known as a master in the kitchen. He also found great joy in football, faithfully cheering on his beloved Arkansas Razorbacks and the San Francisco 49ers, enjoying the camaraderie and excitement that came with every game.

Above all, Darol cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mellie; his daughters, Carolyn Knod and Kristi Garcia; his sons-in-law, Ray Garcia and Alan Davis; five granddaughters; and three great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Davis, and his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Kelley.
