Del Rey

Obituary

David Gutierrez was born April 15, 1953, in Fresno, California.  He attended Del Rey Elementary and graduated from Selma High School in  197l.  He then attended Reedley and Fresno City Colleges.

David was loyal, devoted and caring with friends in his life.  He worked at Heinle Gas station in Del Rey for approximately 25 years for his good friend and boss, Gordon.  He was a proud godfather and compadre to Fred and Hopie, and a faithful friend to many, Luis, Manual, Ruben, Martin, Barbas, Juan, Chilo, Pete and Juan and numerous others.

After the gas station closed, David worked at the IRS and held various jobs in Fresno and Clovis.  He ended his career at Six Jewels Dehydrator in Fowler  where he worked for 20 years as a payroll clerk.  He truly enjoyed his work there and made many life-long friendships.

David was a very kind, gentle and extremely generous man.  He dedicated his life to serving his friends, taking them on errands, doctor appointments and helping them complete various documents or interpreting for them.   Most important, the love of his life was his mother, Lucy Cerda.  He committed his life to taking care of her and missed her so very much when she passed away.

A favorite recollection of David was when the extended family would gather at Thanksgiving.  Without fail, the tv was on the football games with David doing live, colorful commentary...on every single play.  Let me just say I was so grateful we both rooted for the same team.

Which brings us to his second love, The Las Vegas Raiders but always the Oakland Raiders to us.   Although they unfortunately broke his heart time and time again, he was their greatest and most vocal supporter.  I have no doubt he's decked out in his Oakland Raiders t-shirt somewhere out there and smiling.  Most likely at a casino.  There wasn't a casino he didn't love, Chukchansi, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Lemoore, Table Mountain.   He made time for having fun and casinos gave him great joy.

David is survived by four brothers, John, Manual, Augustine, and Robert, and four sisters Alice, Sylvia, Sara, and Connie.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Mike, and Danny.  He also has many nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces.  David will be sorely missed by his brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and many, many friends
