Aug 24, 1936 — Aug 16, 2025
Clovis
Donald Bert Luft was born on August 24, 1936, in Fresno, California, to loving parents, Bert and Katherine Luft. A brother, Kenneth Allan, joined the family in 1939. The family was very close, and the brothers grew up as best friends.
Don attended Kirk Elementary School, Edison High School from 7th through 10th grade, and Roosevelt High School. He graduated in 1954.
Don served in the United States Army National Guard for eight years.
Don was actively involved in numerous community organizations throughout his life. He was a distinguished president of the East Fresno Kiwanis, Head Trader of the Fresno Trade Club, and served on the Boards of Directors at Twilight Haven and Lutheran Cross Church. He was a member of Fresno Gyros and President and Governor of Sons in Retirement. He also volunteered at the Veterans Memorial Museum.
His first job was at Electrical Suppliers Company. He then worked for Electric Motor Shop and Sylvania/GTE Electric. He retired from the industrial laundry services due to medical reasons.
He spent his last remaining years at The Grove Assisted Living. He often participated in musical events by playing his collection of harmonicas. His many caregivers enjoyed taking care of him and making them laugh by telling many jokes.
His survivors are his son David Luft; his daughter, Donna Grant and husband Peter; his grandson Derik Grant and wife Ashley; and three great-granddaughters Madison, Jenna, and Kendal.
His family and friends will sincerely miss him.
