Dorothy Nielson Giles passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025 surrounded by all four of her children. Dorothy was born in the little town of Oak City, Utah in the Spring of 1929 to Clarence and Dainy Nielson. She was the 10th of 11 children. She had a humble upbringing on a self sustaining farm. There wasn't a lot of money but there was an abundance of love. She married Burke Giles in 1951 and had five children. She spent the rest of her life feeding and serving family, friends and her church. Dorothy was a talented lady: a master quilter, gardener, seamstress, cook, and baker.

Dorothy spent her formative years between Oak City and Delta, Utah. Her heart was always in Oak City. There she enjoyed horseback riding, dancing, gardening, tending animals, and adventures with friends and relatives in Oak Creek Canyon. At eight years old, she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At a young age, she recognized the power of prayer and her religion in her life. She graduated from Delta High School in 1947 and went on to obtain an AA degree at Dixie College in St George. In 1949, she moved to Ogden and got a secretarial position at the Federal Building and Loan. The next year, she became a clerk/stenographer at Hill Air Force Base.

She met the love of her life on New Years Eve 1949 at a dance hall. They were married on June 11, 1951, in the Manti Temple. Soon after they got married, they moved to Washington State where Burke would be a Civil Engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation. Her childbearing years were filled with "mostly joy but some great sorrow". Dorothy and Burke raised four children: Allen, Janet, LeeAnn, Debbie. Their second born, Stanley Bruce passed away at 3 months old.

Besides raising a family, Dorothy kept herself busy with her many duties as a housewife and serving in her church. Dorothy's life was filled with service. She continually cooked for others, sewed all her children's clothes and award-winning quilts, kept an immaculate house, and had a flourishing garden. She had the incredible ability to gather her family and fostered the tight-knit relationships they have today. She hosted dinner every Sunday at her home and created special holiday traditions. She remained a valiant member of her church, serving in many callings, and always pointing others to Christ.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Burke Giles, her son Stanley Bruce, and her grandson, Stanley Giles Andrus, her parents, and all but one of her siblings.

Dorothy is survived by her four children: Allen Giles, Janet Andrus, LeeAnn Giles, and Debbie Walker, 9 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Farewell Funeral Service 650 W Locust Avenue on Thursday, January 30th from 5 PM-7 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 3375 W Sierra Avenue Fresno, Ca 93711 on Saturday, February 1st at 10 AM.
