Obituary

Elfrieda Hildebrandt, born on August 16, 1929, in Henderson, Nebraska, was a devoted educator and a cherished member of her community. She passed away leaving behind a legacy of love and service. Elfrieda was the daughter of Jacob C. Ediger and Ester Regier Ediger. She pursued her education at Tabor College Academy, York College, and later earned her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from California State University Fresno.

Elfrieda dedicated her life to education, working in various roles within the Fresno Unified School District, including as a general elementary school teacher, Reading Specialist, Special Education Learning Disabilities Teacher, and Psychologist. She also contributed to the administration at the Junior High Level and served as a Counselor at the Junior College. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom as she was a published author on Moral and Spiritual Values.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Baptized in the Big Blue River, she was actively involved in her church communities, including the Henderson Mennonite Brethren Church, Bethany Mennonite Brethren Church, Fresno Evangelical Free Church, and Riverpark Bible Church. Elfrieda was also a member of Kappa Delta Pi and the California Association of School Psychologists.

Elfrieda was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Wilbur Hildebrandt, with whom she shared 70 years of marriage, her daughter Lynette Joy Wiens, her parents, and her siblings Evelyn Buller, Adina Janzen, and Gene Rodney Ediger. She is survived by her son John C. Hildebrandt, grandchildren Corrie Zare, Bradley Wiens, Whitney Pourchot, and John V. Hildebrandt, and great-grandchildren Theo, Silas, and Joelle Pourchot, as well as her sister Carol Friesen.

Elfrieda's life will be celebrated with a graveside service on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Clovis Cemetery District, 305 North Villa Avenue, Clovis, California. Her legacy of love, education, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
