Our Lord called Emily Alvarez home on April 29, 2025. She peacefully passed away at her home in Madera, California, at the age of 86. Born in Caruthers, California, Emily moved to Madera at a young age, where she attended Eastin-Arcola and Lavina Elementary Schools, and later graduated from Madera High School in 1957.
In 1959, Emily married her first husband and together they had three children: Ronald, Kimberly, and Krisanne Barboza. Emily was employed with the Madera Tribune and later retired from PG&E after 38 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Emily and her second husband, Sal Alvarez, enjoyed traveling together in their RV, visiting Canada and exploring the Midwest, often accompanied by her beloved fur baby, Brandy. They also cherished the many cruises they took together.
Emily was an avid bowler and golfer, earning the nickname 'Hurricane Emily' for her prowess in the bowling league. She had a passion for dancing and music, especially enjoying the Eagles and Vicente Fernandez. Emily was also a talented gardener, known for her beautiful flowers and plants. Her home was a welcoming place for family and friends, where she was known for her delicious cooking and warm hospitality.

She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Baby Joe, her parents Jose and Isabel Maciel, her sister Mary Ellen Lopez, her brother Edward Joe Maciel, her sister Esther Rista, brothers-in-law Pete Rista and OJ Hefner, and her beloved fur baby, Brandy.
