Evelyn Z McConnell was born to Fred and Alma Goode in Pocahontas, Tennessee on September 21,1928 and grew up in Missouri. She was second to the oldest of seven girls and two boys all preceding her in death except a sister, Fran McEntire.

She came to California as a teenager, met and married Robert Padgett who also preceded her in death in 1947. In 1950 she met and married Charles Wood who preceded her in death in 1993. She has three children; Bill Padgett and wife Carol, Donna Wood, Charlotte Clifton and husband Bob. Eight grandchildren and eleven great-children. She leaves behind her husband of  twenty five years Abert McConnell.

Her greatest joy in life was her relationship with Jesus as her Lord and Savior and after that her family. Her hobbies that she was well known for were cooking,baking,gardening and sewing.
