Obituary

Frances "Audrey" White

Audrey was born in Fresno, CA on August 23,1929 to Laurice Edward Christian and Pearl Elizabeth Christian (Pittman). Audrey passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024 at the home of her daughter, Jo Lynn and her husband Wayne.

Audrey graduated from Fowler High School in 1947. In her junior year, she attended Reedley High School and was a member of the girls winning basketball team.

In 1952 Audrey married William Donald White (Bill), a U.S. Navy Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate, and began her next adventure.  As a career Navy man, Bill took Audrey to all his service stations: Philadelphia (PA), Moffett Field (CA), Honolulu (HI), Trenton (NJ), and San Diego (CA). After 20 years in the Navy, Bill retired.  He and Audrey took their 3 children, Jo Lynn, Walter and William (Jr.), and settled outside of Fresno in the small town of Caruthers. They bought 20 acres and farmed cotton and then soy beans.

In 1967, Bill had a fatal heart attack. Audrey continued to raise her children while working at various locations in Caruthers until eventually working retail at Sears in Fresno. At the young age of 86 she retired from Sears after 27 years of service.

After retirement, Audrey filled her days with reading, crocheting, gardening, bowling and hitting the ol' slot machines as often as she could.  She loved going to Tachi Palace. She also loved playing cards and would get together with friends and family for a friendly game of Hawaiian Bridge whenever possible. Some days the card game would take up the entire day. For her 70th birthday, Audrey went on her first cruise with family and friends. She was hooked! Her cruise adventures included the Mexican Riviera, Hawaii and the Panama Canal. Her favorite cruise was the inside passage to Alaska. She took this trip on several occasions. Her 90th birthday was celebrated on an Alaska cruise with her daughter. They met many people and made some new friends, Steve and Sherry, who they still communicate with. This was one of Audrey's favorite adventures.

Audrey (Granny) is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her sisters Betty Jean, Mary, Barbara and Patsy and her brothers Douglas and Dennis.

She is survived by her children Jo Lynn (Wayne), Walter (Diana) and William, Grandchildren Brandi, Katy (Mike) Nigel and James, great grandchildren Brianna (Reid), Landon, Ethan and Chelsey and great-great grandchildren Jameson, Stetson and Sawyer Ann.

The family would like to thank Audrey's physician, Dr. Leng Thao in Selma. He always made her feel young. Also, they would like to thank Hinds Hospice for their extraordinary care, especially Maribel who treated her like a queen.

There will be a private memorial at a later date.

As Audrey would say, "What an adventure!"
