It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Keith McCurry, beloved Brother, Uncle, and cherished college professor, passed away peacefully at CAL VET on January 1, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on February 13, 1946, in Fresno, California, he was the son to the late Opal McCurry and Troy McCurry. Gary's journey began in a vibrant and diverse setting, which would later influence his creative spirit and passion for Interior design. He also Developed a love for animals, Dogs in particular. His family dog that he grew up with left an imprint on his heart so big that from his childhood on he never went to long in this world without a Dog Companion. Many of whom carried the same names, such as Liken and Hattie May.

His Early Years growing up and moving around the central valley of California he developed a love for his home state and region. Although he lived thought the United States Fresno and Clovis always was his home. After Graduating from Clovis High, he was drafted into the Armed Services where he served as a medic for 4 years. It was after his service when he had enrolled at Fresno State University. He was the youngest and the last to pass on, of his 4 siblings. In his last couple of years, he chose to return to Fresno to be near the Friends, Family and to relive memories and experiences that brought him joy.

Gary dedicated his professional life to education, inspiring generations of students at Fresno State University (FSU) and many other Campuses around the USA. His educational journey culminated in a master's degree from Fresno State University in Art and Design, which laid the foundation for a distinguished career as a professor of Art and Design and interior design. With a profound belief in the power of creativity, Gary not only imparted knowledge but also encouraged his students to see the world through an artistic lens. His influence extended beyond the classroom, as he embodied the very principles he taught fostering innovation, self-expression, and the courage to explore new ideas. He left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to engage with him, a mark that will endure in the hearts and minds of his students and loved ones alike.

In honor of Gary Keith McCurry's life, a memorial service will be planned at a time yet to be determined. He will be laid to rest at San Joaquín Valley National Cemetery.
