It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilbert Hernandez, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, who passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 23, 2026 at the age of 56 in Fresno, California.

Gilbert was born on April 6, 1969 in Fresno, California to Susana Garza and Ruben Garza.

Gilbert graduated from Fresno High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Tank Driver Armor Crewmember who navigated the battlefield, with his Army brothers working alongside the tank commander, gunner, and loader in Operation Desert Storm.

Gilbert was known for his big beautiful smile, his humor, his exceptional artistic abilities, like painting, drawing, woodworking, carving, tattooing, and his numerous musical talents that include writing/composing music, rapping, singing, performing at concerts, and playing the guitar, accordion, harmonica, and drums. Gilbert loved the outdoors and spending time in Oregon camping with his family and getting into mischief with his cousin Adam who Gilbert thought of as his brother and loved so very much.

Gilbert is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Tammy Hernandez, his three sons Gilbert Jr., Jordan Oshae,Tyson Sonny, and his brothers Tony, and Roy, his sisters Maria, Julie, Juanita, Hilda, and also Pablo, Smiley, Lulu, Sandra, and Annabelle, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Gilbert/Uncle Butch dearly.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents Ruben and Susana Garza and Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins who all held a very special place in his heart.
