James Kevin Ambrose (Kevin), aged 70, passed away on January 18, 2026.

Kevin did it his way. Always. He grew up with a wonderful life in Front Royal, VA, played high school football, and had many great friends, which he kept throughout his life.  In the summer of 1973 he left home with his good friend Bill Ritter for an adventure of a lifetime.  These 2 southern boys drove across the country with no particular plan other than to have fun. They ended up in Yosemite National Park, getting jobs in the park and enjoying the wonderful activities the park offers. Kevin became an extreme sports guy who loved climbing, hiking, cross-country and back country skiing, biking and golf. Yosemite is where he met our wonderful Tania Graham (my redheaded sister).

As injuries began to slow him down Kevin developed the love for good food and wine and went into fine dining food service and wine sales.  He thrived in this friendly environment and people were naturally drawn to his fun spirit. He remained in this business until his retirement.

He spent his retirement in Oakhurst, CA and remained friends with many of those he met when he arrived in Yosemite.

Kevin will be fondly remembered for his generous smile, his sense of humor and his love of friendship. His current circle of friends really came together for him during his final days, and his family is forever grateful to them for that.  So we raise a glass to Kevin.  Slainte.

Kevin is survived by Pamela Macaleer his sister, and Brad Macaleer his brother-in-law.  Nephews James Michael Wooddell and Mathew Wade Wooddell, and niece and nephew Emily Cobean Ennis and Timothy Lindsey Cobean.

Kevin is preceded in death by Carlos (Jimmy) Ambrose - father, Laura Boyd Ambrose - mother, and Donna Jean Wooddell – sister, and Hoyt Wooddell, brother-in-law.
