Obituary

James Edward Salmon was born February 19, 1934 and went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2023. Jim was born to Johnnie and Ruth Salmon in Rome, Georgia. He was one of seven children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Salmon.

Jim was a Navy veteran and enlisted at the age of 17. His mother had to go sign documents for him to enlist as he was underage. He served in the Korean War and was a true red, white and blue country loving man. He was proud of his service, his country and his flag. A buddy he served with asked him to come home with him on leave to Dos Palos, California. It was there he met the love of his life, Betty Sue Ross. They were married for 62 years before Betty passed. Jim was holding her hand as she took her last breath.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Valentine and her husband, Ron, sons, Charles Salmon and his wife, Peggy and James Salmon Jr. and his wife, Stephanie. He has seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Jim started his own window company along with his wife, Betty, and worked it until retiring, having his sons take the company over. He was also a farmer, farming about 80 acres and living on the ranch in Fresno, California. Jim and Betty moved to Arroyo Grande on the Central Coast and never moved back to the farm. He still lived there upon his death.

Jim loved to tell stories and write songs. His songs were about the flag, his country, his wife and heaven. He was not shy at all, he would walk right up to a stranger and ask if he could sing them a song! I don't think he ever got tired of talking, singing or telling stories.

He health started failing the past few years and he missed his wife. He longed for heaven, and when that day came we all knew he crossed over Jordan and saw his wife Betty and his Lord and Savior.

He will be missed, but 2 Timothy 4:7-8 sums up his later days:

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing"
