James David Wilkins
Born: November 1, 1951, to David and Dorothy Wilkins of Selma.
Passed: October 10, 2024, in Selma.

Words that represent dad: Family man, farmer, football star, strong integrity, respect, legacy, & tradition.
On All Saints Day 1951, James Wilkins came into this world as the first son to David and Dorothy Wilkins of Selma. His two older sisters helped welcome him home and soon he was playing and helping on the ranch. Jim grew up in the Selma school system becoming a football star for the Selma Bears, then took his athletic skills to Fresno City College and Chico State. He was later inducted into the Chico State Athletic Hall of Fame (2011) and the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame (2015).
After college, Jim returned to the ranch in Selma and became a 3rd generation Sun Maid Raisin grower. He soon married his high school sweetheart and had two kids, Kyle and Alana. He was an active and involved Dad and served the community by coaching many baseball, softball and football teams.
Being a single dad, he worked hard to provide for his children as well as pursue his dream of wine making. In 1995 he took the leap to buy open land outside of Paso Robles and planted wine grapes. His passion for family, farming and wine grew and he started James Wilkins Vineyards wine label. During that time, he met the love of his life, Suzette Praetz, and they married in 1998. Soon they grew the family and welcomed a namesake son, James Wilkins II in 2000.
Jim's world revolved around being a loving husband, father, grandfather, farmer and good friend. His heart of gold has made a lasting impact on the family and community. He is missed. Rest in peace.
A Graveside Service will be held at Fowler Cemetery on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 10am. A reception will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Marechal Vineyards in Sanger.
