Janet Ying, a beloved resident of Selma, CA, passed away at the age of 94 on July 13, 2024, at Horizon Health & Subacute Center Fresno, following complications from a stroke she suffered in 2014.  Born on September 2, 1929, in the picturesque town of Lawai, Kauai, Hawaii, Janet moved with her family to Hanford, CA, in 1948 after graduating from high school.  They opened the Cut Rate Market at the corner of 11th Ave and Grangeville Blvd.  Janet furthered her education at the University of Hawaii, College of the Sequoias, and San Jose State.

On September 17, 1951, Janet married Eugene Ying, a native of Hanford, while he was in his third year of dental school at UC San Francisco. After Eugene's graduation in 1953, the couple moved to Fort Lewis, Tacoma, WA, where Eugene proudly served in the US Army until November 1955.  They then returned to the Central Valley, settling in the Selma area with their young family.

Janet devoted her life to being an exceptional homemaker.  She instilled values of healthy living, activity, support, and encouraging everyone to reach their full potential. A lifelong dedicated member of the Presbyterian Church, she volunteered for decades in the Church government.  She served in various capacities including moderating and participating in the National Presbyterian Women and National Asian Presbyterian Councils.  Janet also contributed her time to the Selma Guild and served on the Board of Trustees for Valley Children's Hospital.

Janet and Eugene shared a passion for travel and food, exploring cuisines across the United States and around the world, including trips to China, India, and Australia/New Zealand. They were food enthusiasts long before the term "foodie" became popular.

One of their cherished hobbies was playing Bridge. Janet found immense joy in both the game and the camaraderie she shared with the same group of friends, meeting every second Thursday of the month for more than 50 years.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Nancy Janalee Ying and Allison Ying Bauer; step-grandson, Scott Bauer; brother-in-law, Wellman Jue; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Eugene; parents, Adam T.O. and Mary L. Dang; sisters, Dorothy W.F. Wong and Shirley Jue; and brothers, Adam Y.W. Dang and Thomas Y.P. Dang.
