Obituary

Jeffrey "Jeff" E. Carroll passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025 in Clovis Community Hospital.  Born October 4, 1955 in Sierra Madre, CA to James J. and Beverly A. Carroll, Jeff was the oldest of five children, an avid athlete and sports fan, and a devoted outdoorsman his entire life.

As Jeff grew up, he loved the outdoors no matter where he was living – surfing while the family lived in Huntington Beach then hunting, hiking and fishing around Fresno.  He went to Bullard High School and graduated in 1973, playing varsity baseball. He also played tennis and basketball, but really loved golf, becoming a scratch golfer in his twenties.

Jeff attended Fresno State and obtained his B.A. in Business Administration in 1977. Jeff was a rabid Bulldogs fan, with season tickets to Bulldog basketball for decades. He was a huge Dodgers and Lakers fan and would often travel to L.A. or San Francisco to see those teams play.

After college, Jeff went to work in real estate and found a perfect fit there for his detailed memory skills and engaging personality. He soon became a top residential agent/broker in Fresno.  For almost 35 years, Jeff worked with Realty Concepts. He started at its inception and helped train and manage young agents for the last 15 years. Jeff had a vast and detailed knowledge of not just Fresno's neighborhoods and housing inventory, but also real estate ethics, legal forms, subcontractors, market trends and everything else required for success.

Jeff's true love and passion was the outdoors.  When he was not teaching his daughters to fish, camp and hunt, he was teaching friends, neighbors and co-workers (and their kids) to fish, camp and hunt. He wanted every child to appreciate the natural beauty, wildlife and wonder around them. He loved the lakes and parks surrounding Fresno, and spent enormous time in Yosemite.

Jeff was an avid conservationist and outdoorsman.  When he wasn't enjoying the outdoors with friends and family, he was devoting his life to preserving natural resources, whether it was public lands or wildlife. He was a vocal and active supporter of the San Joaquin River Parkway and lifetime member of California Waterfowl Association. He devoted thousands of hours to those causes, from building nesting boxes to organizing fund-raisers. For the last 25 years, he was Chair of the Fresno County CWA Dinner, one of CWA's highest-profit dinners in the State.

His biggest outdoor passion was duck hunting. He hunted throughout the western states for over 50 years. For the last 35 years, he supported youth hunts and other youth events for CWA, and personally introduced hundreds of kids (and adults) to hunting, fishing and wildlife.

Jeff is survived by his beloved wife – Julie; his beautiful daughters --Erin and Jennifer; Julie's daughter -- Cristen; Cristen's husband -- Jory Leiss; and Jory and Cristen's daughters (Julie and Jeff's granddaughters) -- Lennon and Maren.  Jeff was pre-deceased by his sister, Laura Marie Carroll-Messer. Jeff is also survived by his brothers Patrick, Gerald and James.
