Obituary

John Duane Gordon Sr. Was like many First-generation Californians with humble beginnings. John was the middle child of Rila and Juanita Gordon born in Salinas California October 11, 1942. The family made their living as migrant farm workers following the crops from Northern to Southern California seasonally. The family finally settled in the Kingsburg CA area, where John attended High School for a time. John later left school prior to graduating to help with the support of his family of seven children plus his father and mother.

John later met in the Kingsburg area, his first wife Paulette Bridges. They were married for over 20 years with whom he had his only two biological children Denise Dee and John Duane JR. No one could object that John was a very hard worker, from hoeing cotton in the fields of the central valley, working at the Cotton Gin in Kingsburg, Seasonal work at the Del Monte Cannery in Kingsburg, to manufacturing /welding at New Holland in Fowler. Most of you will remember him as that farmer with the Levis', a ball cap, and shirt optional. He worked in farming and farm equipment contracting for over 40 years.

John was the type of man to never meet a stranger, within a few minutes he would be putting you at ease in some type of joking manner. Some called him a people person, who treating those around him with respect and kindness. In his later years John spent some of his spare time restoring a couple of hotrods and working within his church, telling others of the many blessings and mercies God had given him throughout his lifetime. Just to be able sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others around him brought him joy.

John later married his companion Rosa Maria Roman Gordon his second wife. John was a good provider for his family, cared for both family and friends. As farmers know and as the scripture reads:

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance."
