Obituary

Kathryn Behrends Alexander was born to Henry Edward Behrends and Alma Ruth Behrends on April 8, 1961 in Hutchinson, KS. She passed on October 18, 2024.

Kathy grew up in Buhler, KS where she attended elementary school and graduated from Buhler High School. She was active in school enjoying cheering and one of her favorite classes was drafting. She was home coming queen one year. She learned to sew and made many of her own clothes. She also learned to cook from her mother Alma and late in life was known for many dishes including bierocks and cinnamon rolls. She always made extra to give to friends and family.

As a young teenager Kathy worked at the Sunshine Home in Buhler helping the senior residents. This experience impacted the rest of her life. She developed a genuinely warm and caring way. She treated those in her care with love as if they were family. Kathy was also active in the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church she attended singing with the youth group and the Buhler Singers Choir. After high school Kathy attended Tabor College. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age and was later baptized.

After leaving Tabor College, she moved to Visalia, CA where she worked at a sandwich shop while attending San Joaquin Valley College where she trained to be a medical assistant. After graduation worked at Tri-County Medical in Kingsburg, CA. It was there that she met her future husband, Eric Alexander.

Kathy married Eric Alexander October 9, 1993. Eric and Kathy initially lived in Dinuba and then moved to Clovis, CA where she lived the rest of her life. They celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary prior to her passing. After moving to Clovis, Kathy worked at Peachwood Medical in Clovis until she began working with Eric in their San Joaquin Telecom business.

In Clovis Kathy was able to enjoy her love of animals. She had horses, dogs, cats and chickens. She had a love for plants and gardening and would spend as much time outdoors as possible. For many years she ran the Plant Patio for the MCC sale at Fresno Pacific College. She loved the plants and the people.

Kathy valiantly fought breast cancer for 19 years. During this time she realized the need for good insurance coverage and became an insurance agent. She loved working with the clients and colleagues at Cal Sierra Insurance where she was a top agent and much loved colleague. She  loved to teach and help the newer agents.

Over the years, Kathy opened her home to many people. She loved Christian music and always had The Message playing on her radio. Kathy loved God and Jesus Christ most of all. She was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, aunt and friend. To Levi, Liam and Kylie Getz she was Grandma K.

Kathy was a bright light and will be missed by many. Those mourning her loss are her husband, Eric Alexnder of Clovis, CA, four brothers—Steven Behrends and wife Rachel of Paola, KS, Paul Behrends of Sanford, FL, Randal Behrends and wife Colleen of Deltona, FL, Keith Behrends and wife Ann of Barnesville, MN and her one sister, Deborah Kincey and husband Rick of Buhler, KS.
