With deep love and heavy hearts, the family of Laura Mae Sordi Jorgensen regret to inform you of her passing on July 10th, 2026, just a few weeks before her 90th birthday. Laura was born on July 31st, 1936 to John and Hazel Sordi of Madera. She was extremely devoted to her parents and brought them much joy for all of their lives. Laura had an older sister Marilyn (d. 2016) and a younger brother, Doug, with whom she remained close all of her life.

Laura attended Madera High School, where she shined as a cheerleader, and met Jim Jorgensen, her future husband of 71 years. They were married on December 26th, 1955 and had their honeymoon in San Francisco, a city Laura loved. The babies started coming right away: Jamie in 1956, Janet in 1959, Joan in 1960, and Jenifer in 1965. Laura was an exemplary homemaker, and always kept the family household beautiful, wonderful meals on the table, and that beautiful smile on her face for her husband when he came home.

Anyone who knew Laura will remember her as a kind, caring, and loving person. She had many close friends throughout her life, and she treasured those friendships. Whether she was volunteering to feed and love kids at an after school program, tending to her daughters as new mothers, treating her grandkids to something special, or taking extra good care of Jim during the rough days of tax season, she did it with love and generosity.

In addition to her family and friends, Laura had other loves in her life. She was an avid Fresno State sports fan; she and Jim were regulars at football and basketball games for decades. She also loved the Oakland Warriors and the Kansas City Chiefs and cheered them on with dedication.

Laura had a deep faith in God, which was a source of comfort for her; that love for Jesus spilled out into her daily life and to her loved ones.

Laura will be remembered and held in the hearts of her husband, her daughters, sons-in-law, her brother, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, cousin Jeri, and her cherished grandchildren Sarah, Aimee, Emily, Nate, Rachel, Evan, Adam, Colin, Duncan, Malcolm, Jacob, Caleb, Sam, and Isaiah; as well as 19 beautiful great grandchildren, and two more arriving soon. She was a loving mother-in-law to Brad, David, and Richard, and a wonderful grandmother to the spouses of her grandchildren: Frankie, Amanda, Braedon, Kayla, Moriah, Eleanor, Caitlin, Taylor, Amy, Nicole, Alyssa, and Kaelyn. Laura will be missed so much by so many, but the family’s love for Laura will keep her memory alive and her presence felt for years to come.

A service for Laura will be held on Thursday, July 23rd in New Hope Community Church at 4620 Nees Ave in Clovis at 11:00 am. The family hopes you can join us in celebrating her, and wishes to thank all of you who have shown their love to Laura and her family in wonderful ways; it has been helpful, and evidence of the abundance of love Laura put out in the world.
