Obituary

Fresno, California - Joseph Leo Lewis, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away on August 21, 2025, in Fresno, California. He was 98 years old.

Born on September 25, 1926, in Sayre, Oklahoma, Leo was the son of Joseph Nicholas Lewis and Ida Mae Ladd Lewis. His early years were shaped by the values of hard work and perseverance that would define his long and productive life.

Leo attended Clovis High School but left in the spring of his senior year to serve his country by joining the United States Coast Guard during a time of great national need. His decision to enlist reflected a deep sense of duty and patriotism that remained with him throughout his life.

After his service, Leo built a life rooted in craftsmanship and dedication. By day, he worked as a skilled carpenter-shaping homes and structures with precision and care. By night, he turned his attention to the land as an almond farmer, tending to his crops with the same diligence he brought to every endeavor. His dual vocations spoke to both his industrious spirit and his connection to the earth.

Leo shared almost 72 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Anne Lewis. Together they raised their daughter Lesanne Lewis Jacobsen. He welcomed into the family his son-in-law Richard Jacobsen and took great pride in his grandson Cody Jacobsen. Leo also held close bonds with extended family members including his niece Loyetta Aukstkalnis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Leta Ellis; brother Leslie Lewis; nephews Mike Ellis and Larry Lewis; and niece Linda Lewis Payne.

Leo's legacy lives on through those who knew him-as a man who served with honor, worked with integrity, and loved deeply. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
