Obituary

LeRoy Kay Shapazian was born in Visalia, California on February 10th, 1948, and was the first of three children born to parents Crosby and Margaret Shapazian.

LeRoy was raised on his parents' ranch in Dinuba where he attended school. He was honored with the distinction of Valedictorian for his 1966 graduating class of Dinuba High School. LeRoy attended Reedley College for one year before being accepted to the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy Program where he graduated with high honors in 1971. Upon graduation he moved to Fresno and began his career with Longs Drugs, where he remained for 50 years before retiring in 2021. As a youngster LeRoy developed a love of baseball and in 1958 became a San Francisco Giants fan after attending a Dodgers/Giants game with his brother Jerry and father. During his career he became an institution in pharmacy as he gained the trust and appreciation of his many patients and colleagues. Throughout his career, he was asked to provide his support and expertise to many stores in the company. In addition, he was selected by Longs to be a liaison and visit generic drug manufacturers. LeRoy truly loved his work and was proud that so many trusted his pharmaceutical knowledge.

In March of 1975, LeRoy met the love of his life Paula and they were married on August 7, 1976. The couple settled in Fresno and recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. In 1981, LeRoy and Paula were blessed with their first-born, Alison, and in 1984 added to their family with the birth of their son, Paul. LeRoy loved his children very much and always supported them whether it was with their education or extracurricular activities. When his children married he added his son-in-law, Ross, and daughter-in-law, Christina, whom he loved as his own children. In recent years, his three grandchildren completed their family.

LeRoy is survived by his wife, Paula, daughter Alison (Ross) Parnagian, son Paul (Christina) Shapazian, brother Jerry, sister Marilyn Fowler, and grandchildren, Madison, Kendall, Kenny Parnagian, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Crosby and Margaret Shapazian, his in-laws Marty and Virgina Garabedian, brothers-in-law Ron Garabedian and Steve Fowler and his best friend Rodney Melikian.

We would like to thank the extraordinary care he received from his oncologist Dr. Haifaa Abdulhaq, and many other doctors, nurses and staff at Community Cancer Institute and Community Regional Medical Center.
