Loren died on October 10, 2023 at the age of 94.

He maintained that he was lucky, indeed, having lived the rich life that he did. After all, he could have been born in the alleys of Bangkok. He felt so lucky to have had the parents he had, the many friends, associates and loved ones he had, and especially his wife, kids, their spouses, and grandkids.

Loren was born in 1928 and attended local schools, having graduated from Roosevelt H.S. in 1946. He served in the USMC for two years immediately after high school, was recalled to duty in 1950 and served in Korea and Japan. He graduated from Fresno State College in 1953 with a degree in mathematics, and after completing another year to obtain his teaching credential, went to work having fun for Fresno Unified School District. He taught math at Fort Miller Junior High and at Roosevelt H.S. He became a counselor and then Dean of Boys at Roosevelt and served one year as Vice Principal at Bullard H.S. In 1946 he became a counselor at Fresno City College. In 1970 he returned to what he enjoyed doing the most, namely, teaching math in the classroom.

During his 32 years at FCC, he was active in many teacher organizations including the Faculty Senate, Faculty Curriculum Committee, Faculty Teachers' Association of which he served a term as President, and the Faculty Salary Committee. He served the Local Chapter of the American Federation of Teachers as a board member and a member of the negotiating team. He was Math Department Chair for six years.

Loren was a past president and webmaster for the Exchange Club of Fresno. Although he is no longer a member, he wanted this included in his obituary because the club was important to him and has a policy of fining anyone getting his/her name in the paper and not mentioning the Exchange. He was a past member of SIRS, the Fresno Numismatic Society and Toastmasters. He was also a member of the Retired City College Know-It-All's Coffee Club which met every Tuesday at a local donut shop.

Loren's wife, Elizabeth Bartels Gaither, preceded him in death at the age of 94, as well as his two brothers, Richard at age 4 and Ed at age 76.

Loren is survived by his son Bradley, son Richard (Rick) and his wife Judy, daughter Margret (Peggy) Avedisian, sister-in-law Kathleen (Bunny) Bartels, nieces Pamela Asai and Gretchen Gaither Raia, and nephew Bill Bartels. He is also survived by his favorite granddaughter Amy Gaither Speros, her husband Tim and three great-grandchildren Zoe, Stella, and Troy, and his favorite grandson Joseph Gaither. He was extremely proud of his grandkids. He loved them dearly.
