In Loving Memory of Maria Rocio Castro Ferrer

January 2, 1959 – April 29, 2025

With deep sorrow and overflowing love, we announce the passing of Maria Rocio Castro Ferrer, affectionately known as Doña Rocio, who was welcomed into the Lord's arms on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. She was 66 years old.

Born on January 2, 1959, in Zacatecas, Mexico, Rocio was one of 12 children to Cupertino Castro and Enedina Arteaga. From a young age, she carried a deep sense of responsibility and strength. At just 16 years old, she bravely journeyed to the United States in search of a better future — not only for herself, but to support her family back home, a reflection of the selflessness that would define her life.

She is survived by her loving siblings: Beatriz, Jovita, Audelia, Rosario, Margarita, Angel, Gerardo, Pedro, Rodolfo, and Catarino, who remained close to her heart through every season of life.

In the mid-1980s, Rocio made her home in Burrel, CA, and eventually settled in Caruthers, CA, where she would raise her children with the love of her life, her devoted husband Jose Manuel Ferrer. Together, they built a life full of laughter, family, and enduring love. Rocio leaves behind her beloved children: Sophia Y. Hnidey, Rocio E. Hnidey, Santiago Hnidey, and Luis Espinosa Castro, each of whom carries a part of her beautiful spirit.

Rocio was no stranger to hard work. She labored tirelessly in onion packing sheds, peach factories, and raisin facilities—her hands worn with sacrifice, her heart always full of purpose. Her determination to provide a better life for her children never wavered.

In the 1990s, Rocio found her second home working at Danny's Donut and Mexican Restaurant, where her love for cooking and warm hospitality touched the lives of everyone she served. Her food was comforting, but it was her joyful laugh and welcoming embrace that brought people back. She didn't just serve meals—she served kindness, compassion, and community.

To know Rocio was to love her. Her heart was pure, her spirit vibrant, and her joy contagious. She always found the silver lining, always saw the good in people, and always gave more than she had. She was a guiding light, a source of unconditional love, and a second mother to so many beyond her own children.

Her love extended far beyond her immediate family. Rocio was the proud grandmother of Rilee Nelson, Lewis Muñoz, Lyla Muñoz, Kathryn Muñoz, Andrés Hnidey, Luis Humberto Espinosa Jr., Samantha Espinosa, and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving son-in-laws Greg Nelson and Luis Muñoz, and daughter-in-law Vanessa Espinosa.

Rocio's greatest joy was her family. She showed her love through acts of service—making meals, lending a helping hand, giving advice, or simply sitting beside you with a loving smile. She was playful, silly, and full of life. Always the one to crack a joke, start a dance, or tell a story that made you laugh until you cried. She lived with purpose, with passion, and with a heart that embraced everyone.

She was a devoted wife, an extraordinary mother, a joyful grandmother, a loyal sister, and a treasured friend. Her legacy is one of generosity, resilience, deep faith, and above all, love.

She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered.
