Mariangela Anna Martin of Fresno, California moved peacefully from this life to her home in Heaven on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in Troy, New York in 1934, Marie was lovingly adopted by Italian Immigrant parents, Frank and Amelia Montesano. Raised as an only child, the family lived in Utica, New York until relocating to Fresno when Marie was 19.

As she settled into her new life in Fresno, Marie took her first job at the Telephone Company, where she formed friendships that lasted her lifetime. She often reminisced about those years, cherishing the stories and laughter they brought.

At 23, she met the love of her life, Joseph J. Martin. They married a year later in 1958 and started a family four years afterward. First came their son, Michael Martin, and 18 months later, their daughter, Lisa Martin. A beautiful life took root that was filled with love, laughter, travel, and any reason to celebrate. Marie embraced her role as a devoted wife and mother, finding her greatest fulfillment in creating a loving home for her family. While "Homemaker" was the title she was most proud of, she also worked for many years as a librarian and school secretary at Robinson Elementary – positions she loved dearly.

In later years, Marie found purpose and joy through volunteering. She dedicated her time to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, supporting the Team In Training program and families impacted by blood cancer. She also served in the office at New Harvest Church, where her warm spirit and kind heart made her a cherished presence among the staff and wider congregation. Through her service, Marie forged deep and lasting friendships, finding community and connection in giving back to others.

During this time, she also took on a new title—"The Hat Lady." Known for her impeccable style, Marie delighted in wearing an array of beautiful hats, each one carefully chosen to reflect her elegance and personality. It was a title she wore proudly, and she beamed with delight every time someone paid her a compliment. Her hats became more than accessories; they were a reflection of her vibrant spirit and the joy she found in embracing life's little pleasures.

Marie's world changed forever when she lost her beloved Joe in 2003, just short of their 45th wedding anniversary. Her heartache was immeasurable, and her health soon reflected her grief. She did not know how to "do life" without her beloved Joe. Yet, through God's grace, and the love and support of her family and friends, she persevered for 22 years, celebrating her 90th birthday just a few months ago. Now, she is at peace in the presence of Jesus, reunited with the love of her life.

My beautiful mother was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can express. As she always said at the end of every phone call or visit, "Bye for now." Yes, only for now. I will see you again. I love you always.
