Marilyn Jean
Baker
Feb 10, 1936 — Nov 27, 2024
Fresno
Marilyn Jean Baker was born on February 10, 1936, the only child of Richard and Viola (Gloser) Hruska, in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away on November 27, 2024 in Clovis, California at the age of 88.
Marilyn attended Jackson Elementary School, Roosevelt High School, and graduated from Fresno State Normal School. She met Raymond Baker at the Big Fresno Fair and went to the Roosevelt prom with him. They later eloped to Pacific Grove, CA and were married in the courthouse by the justice of the peace on November 16, 1957. They were lovingly married for 55 years.
Marilyn became an educator for the Fresno Unified School District. She taught 2nd Grade for ten years at Franklin and Vinland elementary schools. Then she became a full-time housewife and stay at home mom. She was a lifelong school volunteer, helping in the classroom, helping in the office, and working with students learning to read. She enjoyed the friendships made with other parent volunteers and staff. She was also a supporter of her husband's career as educator and principal of numerous FUSD schools, including Fresno High School, as well as during his time on the Board of Education.
She is survived by her son, Gilbert Baker, and his wife Anne Marie of Loveland, CO.; grandchildren, Trent and Everett Baker, their mother, Elizabeth Baker; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
