Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Lavonne F Snyder at age 89.

Lavonne was born the third child to Lena and Cecil Ray Fortner on August 11, 1934 in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Her family relocated, when she was a baby, to California, which she would call her forever home. She has lived in Tulare, Hanford, Fresno, Easton, Fresno, Auberry, and Fresno again, acquiring lifelong friendships she held dear to her heart.

In 1957, she married Frederick "Fred" Carl Snyder, and together they raised four children, whom she called her "greatest joy."

Lavonne will always be remembered for teaching the children right from wrong, cheering for the underdog, love of the Arts, razor sharp wit, generosity, thoughtfulness, good advice and loving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was called home by God on May 2, 2024 in Fresno, CA. Her family would like to thank the staff at Hinds Hospice for providing a peaceful sanctuary for our last goodbye.

We find comfort in knowing she has been reunited in heaven with her son, Robert Lawrence Snyder; her sister Sallie Rusmisel and brother-in-law, Jack; her brother, Wilbur H. Fortner; her mother, Lena Gray Fortner Denham; her guardians, Mr. and Mrs. Lee and Kitty Brown, and her beloved pets, Andy and Penny.

She is survived by: her brother, Owen Denman (Diane) of Shell Beach; her daughter, Catherine Snyder of Fresno; sons, Jon Snyder (Terri) of Louisville Kentucky and Edward Snyder; her grandchildren, Janie Peters of Irvine, Juliana Kyrklund of Fresno, Savannah Hunsinger (Allan) of Florida, and Haley Snyder of Prather. And many nieces and nephews, including Russell Fortner (her brother's son), who lived nearby, and she saw most often, in later years.

Lavonne will be returned to Tulare and interred with her Mother and Brother, which were always her wishes. Funeral services will be private.

We will announce a Celebration of Life-90th birthday party around her birthdate, and all who knew and loved Lavonne will be welcome, including her Tollberry book club members, Pacifica Senior Living friends, and anyone else who knew, or worked with, this amazing woman. Details to be announced at a later date and will be available on the Farewell Funeral Services website.
