Obituary

Joe Vernon Conner, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 1, 2024, in Clovis, CA.

He was born on August 7, 1935, to Luther and Emma Conner in Haskell, Texas before the family moved out to California. In his early childhood, he spent a few months with his family in Hohenwald, Tennessee, before moving back to California. In his early adult life, he served in the United States Army in Hawaii where he and the love of his life, Betty, had their first-born, Sherri. A few years later in Selma, CA they had their second-born, Dixie. Throughout his life he did work on drilling water wells and worked as a raisin inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he retired from for about 40 years.

He has been an ordained minister of the gospel with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church where he obtained his bachelor's and master's degree in theology through Pacific Coast Bible College and as church pastor to New Life Temple, renamed Lifeliner Ministries of Selma. In his spare time, he loved "old things" or antiques he called them. If he wasn't working in his back shop at home on something old, he was out visiting a museum or the local coin shop. Throughout his life he always shared his love for God, his family, his church, and his country.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, five brothers: Raymond, Roy, L J, Al, and Loyd, his wife Betty, his daughters Sherri Cole and Dixie Richardson, and a son-in-law, Michael Richardson. He is survived by his six grandchildren: Jeremy, Bryton, Jade, Brooke, Jasmine, and Jordaan, one great-grandson, Elisha, a son-in-law, Bruce Cole, and one brother, Houston Conner. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
