Obituary

Penny Pacheco (Panagiota Tsigara) daughter of Georgios and Stavroula Tsigara born in the village of Triodos in Messinia, Greece on June 24, 1937. Beloved mother of 4 children passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 28, 2025 at the age of 87 surrounded by her loving family. She was the hardest working woman we ever knew, warm compassionate and strong in everything she did. She was well known for her amazing baking and cooking of all the wonderful Greek pastries and traditional dishes. Penny was a pillar of strength for her children in every way. She lived for her children. Anna Wilson and husband Dale Wilson of Fresno, CA. George Pacheco of Chicago, IL. Tony Pacheco and wife Carrie Pacheco of Downey CA and Chris Pacheco and wife Stacy Pacheco of Fresno, CA. She was also a cherished Yia Yia to Bobby (wife Madeleine great grand-daughters Gemma & Stella) Kristina (husband Brandon) Eliza, Adam, Jocilyn (husband JB), Niko & Mindy. Best known as Yia Yia to everyone!

Penny came to America when she was 19 with only a 6th grade education and did not know a word of English. She often shared one of her proudest moments was when she arrived at Ellis Island and saw the Statue of Liberty. She made her way to family in Los Angeles, CA where she found work as a seamstress in the garment industry.

Penny enjoyed cooking and feeding her family and friends. Monday night Yia Yia dinners were epic feasts for all those lucky enough to be in the vicinity. She always made sure there was more than enough food for anyone who stopped by. She also loved to knit and crochet making blankets for all of her family, friends and relatives.

Penny was a long standing and devoted member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Most of all she enjoyed being a proud member of the Athena Philoptochos Society (friends of the poor) women's club at St. George church. This gave her great joy and we have fond memories of her baking and working for the annual St. George Greek Festival.

The family is unbelievably grateful for St. George and the entire Greek membership who gave our mother purpose and more importantly, love!

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 10:00am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in her memory.
