Longtime Valley resident Ruby Edna Michael, celebrated her 105 th birthday on July 12, 2024, and passed away 5 months later at Palm Village in Reedley Ca., where she has lived for the past 5 years. Ruby Shamblin was born at home in Fisher County Texas, in 1919. She was the 5 th child of 10 childrenand outlived all of her siblings.

She married Clyde Bohanon when she was 17 years old, and had her first child Rita Mae the following year. Sadly Rita Mae died when she was 19 months old. Two years later she had another daughter Beverly Martheda . In 1943 the family moved to Coalinga, in search of a better life. The town of Coalinga was growing because of the oil boom, and farming. Clyde found work as an equipment maintenance man for a small farm . After living in Coalinga for 2 years they had their third child, Charles Odell Bohanon.

Ruby and Clyde were very hard workers. Clyde worked in agriculture all his life, working at Allen Ranch, Gribble Ranch, Griffen Ranch, and Giffen Ranch to name some. Rudy worked as a housekeeper for several local motels and did washing and ironing for many Coalinga residents. She lived in Coalinga until 1985, when she moved to Fowler to be near her sister Pearl. July 1987 she married Loyd Elmer Michael, and they remained together until his death in Nov. 2018. Ruby and Loyd loved to travel, and loved to buy and sell at yard sales. They lived in Fowler, Selma, Kingsburg, Atascadero, & Bowles in Ca. They also lived in Texas and Oklahoma.

Ruby was a wonderful grandmother to her 6 grandsons all born within 10 years. Sometimes she had them all at her house for the night at the same time. She loved to travel to visit her Grandchildren in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Colorado and Arizona. She probably resided in 50 different homes in her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Loyd Michael, first husband Clyde Bohanon, daughters Rita Mae & Martheda Bohanon , grandson, Kenneth Lee Gibbs, 5 sisters and 4 brothers. She is survived by her son Charles and wife Regina, 4 Stepdaughters, Cinda Bridger, Darlene Stephenson, Linda La Rue, and Glenda Michael, 5 grandsons, Bradley and Wesley Scott Gibbs, James, Randell and Jason Bohanon. She has 11 greatgrandchildren and 8 greatgreatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews too numerous to name. She was dearly loved by all.
