Obituary

Salvador Aguinaga Jr., 78, was born on September 16, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, to Salvador E. and Rose Aguinaga. At a very young age, Sal and his family moved to Selma, California, where he grew up, attended school, and graduated from Selma High School in 1966.

Selma became the place he called home, and it was there that he built his life before answering the call to serve his country. On June 28, 1968, Sal joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served as a Marine during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1972. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of the sacrifice he made for his country. His time as a Marine was a meaningful part of who he was, and his love and pride for his country remained with him throughout his life.

After completing his military service, Sal dedicated 32 years to working for the Fresno Unified School District, serving his community with commitment and pride.

Sal was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Ann Aguinaga, with whom he shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Their life together was built on love, commitment, family, and countless cherished memories. Sal had a wonderful sense of humor and a special way of bringing laughter to the lives of those around him. He also maintained many long-lasting friendships, valuing the people who had been part of his life over the years and remaining a loyal and caring friend to many.

Sal was a die-hard Los Angeles Rams fan and a devoted Dodgers fan. He took great pride in cheering on his teams, celebrating their victories, enduring their difficult seasons, and sharing his passion for sports with family and friends. Whether talking about football or baseball, Sal’s enthusiasm and loyalty were unmistakable.

Sal was preceded in death by his Dad, Salvador Aguinaga, Sr., and his Mom, Rose Aguinaga. He was also preceded in death by his Uncle Louie Aguinaga, Grandma Refugia (Cuca) Chavez, Aunts Lupe Maldonado, Andrea Nuanes, Emma DeLaO, Vivian Grijalva, and Uncle Tony Chavez, cousins, brother-in-law, and other family members.

Sal is survived by his wife, Ann; 10 godchildren; his brother, Rudy Aguinaga; his sister, Louise Alatorre; and their families. He is also survived by numerous cousins who will cherish his memory.

Sal was a man who loved his family, served his country as a proud Marine and Vietnam veteran, dedicated 32 years to the Fresno Unified School District, maintained lifelong friendships, and never lost his sense of humor. He was a loyal Rams and Dodgers fan, a devoted husband, and a friend to many. His presence, stories, laughter, sports conversations, enduring friendships, and the love he shared with those around him will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
