Steven Dee Smith, known affectionately as Steve, passed away on August 22, 2024, in Fresno, CA. Born on May 11, 1946, in Newport, AK, Steve was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, serving two tours with the U.S. Marine Corps, embodying their motto "Semper Fidelis" – always faithful.

Steve spent his career as a dedicated truck driver after his honorable discharge from the military, where he served in the Marine Corps. His commitment to service was evident in every aspect of his life, including his active involvement at the Baptist Church of Chowchilla.

Family was the cornerstone of Steve's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Smith; children Brenda, Jennifer, Christopher, Debra, Karen, and David, Michele; and sister Margaret. He was a cherished grandfather to Maxwell, Lucas, Ben, Juliana, Randall, Ryan, Madison, Justin, Kassandra, Christina, Steven, and Miranda, and a great-grandfather to Bryce, Logan, Addison, Kamryn, Cheyanne, Rhett, Eli, Brooks, Lucas, and Easton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Linda.

Steve's love for the outdoors was evident through his hobbies, which included camping, hunting, and four-wheeling. He also enjoyed playing cards with fellow members of the American Legion, sharing stories and camaraderie.

A service to honor Steve's life will be held at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 West McCabe Road, Santa Nella, CA 95322, on September 3rd at 11:30 AM. Farwell Funeral Service in Fresno, CA, is assisting the family during this time.

Steve's legacy of courage, honor, and faithfulness will be remembered by all who knew him. His life was a testament to the strength and integrity of a true Marine, and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
