THELMA (WEBER) BURTON
December 20, 1926 – July 21, 2024
Thelma Burton was a dedicated teacher, gracious hostess, generous friend and volunteer, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
After graduating from Washington Union High School, Thelma enrolled at Fresno State College, where she met the love of her life, Douglas, while both were studying for their degrees and active in Greek life.
Thelma and Doug lived and worked in Oakland before purchasing their beloved "Thelma's Vineyard" and returning to Selma to raise their three daughters. In addition to the ranch, Thelma taught Home Economics in Fresno City Schools until retiring and joining Douglas on the ranch and enjoying all they did together -- from gardening to entertaining and traveling. Long active in the Selma and Fresno communities, she was especially devoted to The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Scottish Rite RiteCare Childhood Language Center. Thelma was always active and engaged in life.
Thelma was predeceased by her cherished husband of 64 years on March 25, 2016, and is survived by her daughters, Pamela Miller and her husband Tim; Priscilla Burton; Kim Schutz and her husband Monte; four grandchildren, Rebecca Hanshaw and her husband Scott, Scot Miller, Justin Schutz and his wife Alex, Robert Schutz; four great grandchildren, Connor and Mason Hanshaw , Graham and Beau Schutz; and her brothers and their spouses, Melvin and Paula Weber and Don and Shirley Weber.
Remembrances may be made to the Scottish Rite RiteCare Childhood Language Center – or today, give a smile and wink to someone you see.
