Violet Marie Dodd, the loving and devoted matriarch of her family, passed away on October 8, 2026. Born on May 4, 1941, to James Edward Nimmo and Beulah Ann Keele Nimmo, she was the middle child of five—two older brothers and two younger sisters. From a young age, Violet was a natural caretaker.

She met her husband of 65 years, Earl Dodd, while living in McKinleyville, CA. They settled in Lemoore, CA in 1967 and together they raised two children, LaRhonda and Rick (Cindie), both of Lemoore.

Violet cherished her large extended family and maintained close relationships with her siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout her life. She was the proud grandmother of Candis, Dave, Melissa, and Kristen, and the great grandmother of Dayna, Tayler, Haylei, Addison, Clayton, Frankie Jr., Aaron, and Charlotte. To many in the family, she was affectionately known simply as “Nan”.

Violet possessed many talents. She was an exceptional seamstress, making clothes for herself and her family for many years. She was also a great cook and baker and taught others how to make her recipes. She also had a sharp mind for finances. For 25 years, she was the Lemoore Pentecostal Church of God’s Secretary and Treasurer, and she also worked for Bank of America for many years.

Yet Violet’s greatest gift was her capacity to love unconditionally. Her patience and compassion touched everyone who knew her. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for those she loved, and she made certain you always knew how deeply she cared. She had the biggest heart with a capacity to love “to the moon and back”. Once you became a part of her family, you remained a part of it forever. She took care of many different family members at different times in her life. You always felt welcome at Nan and Pop’s house.

Violet is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and sisters Juanita of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Victoria of Oak Harbor, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, and her brothers Jim and Paul. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews in various states.

Violet will be remembered at a graveside service at Oak Grove Cemetery in Laton, CA on October 23, 2026, at 11:00am.
