Obituary

Wanda "Alene" Giesy, a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother great-great grandmother, passed away on August 31, 2024, at the age of 97.
Born on January 27, 1927, in Neosho Falls, Kansas, to Lawrence and Kate Myers.  At the age of 17, Alene obtained her teaching credential and taught 1st – 8th grades in a one room schoolhouse. Later, Alene became a librarian and dedicated over 35 years at the public library in Topeka, Kansas.
On February 16, 1946, she married the love of her life, Murl William "Bill" Giesy, and together they shared many beautiful years.

In September 2001, Alene relocated from Topeka, Kansas, to Clovis, California, to be near her only daughter, Cathy Compton, and her three grandsons. Alene quickly became a beloved figure in both her family and the community. Her culinary skills were legendary. Her cinnamon apples, Watergate and ambrosia salad, and cookies, were staples at family gatherings. Whether making strawberry jam, creamed corn, or peaches that rivaled those served in the finest restaurants, Alene's talent in the kitchen was unparalleled.

Alene was often sought out by family and friends for her insightful first-hand accounts of historical events. Her unique perspective on key moments in history—from world wars to the advent of color television and technological advancements—made her stories especially treasured.

Alene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, "Bill" Giesy.

She is survived by her daughter Cathy Compton, son-in-law Ronald, and her grandsons Travis, Shane, and Billy their spouses, Stacy and Erin. She also leaves behind her 8 great-grandchildren as well as 2 great-great-grandsons.

Memorial Service for Alene will be held 2:00pm, September 21, 2024, at Campus Bible Church, 222 E. Fountain Way Fresno, CA 93726.

Graveside services will be held in October at Logue Cemetery in Leroy, Kansas.  Details forthcoming.
