Obituary

William Anthony Baptista

August 3, 1943 - August 26, 2026

William Anthony Baptista, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend, passed away in Fresno, California, on August 26, 2026, at the age of 83.

William was born in Fresno on August 3, 1943, and spent much of his early and adult life in the community of Kerman. After graduating from Kerman High School, he remained in Kerman for 55 years, making it the place he proudly called home. He devoted many years to working alongside his family on the family dairy and farm, where he found joy in the land, the animals, and the life they built together.

In the late 1998, William moved from Kerman to Fresno, where he lived for 17 years. He later moved to Friant, California, where he spent the remainder of his life surrounded by the beauty and peacefulness of the Central Valley he had always called home.

William was a truly gentle and sweet man. He had a quiet kindness about him that made people feel at ease, and throughout his life he formed many friendships that he treasured deeply. His gentle nature and genuine kindness were simply part of who he was.

William had a special love for animals. Having spent so much of his life around them, he understood their gentle nature, and they seemed to recognize his. He loved animals, and animals loved him. It was simply part of who he was.

William was also a gifted artist with a passion for oil painting, particularly paintings depicting the Old West. His artwork allowed him to capture the beauty and character of the western landscapes and stories that fascinated him. His paintings remain a special part of the legacy he leaves behind.

He enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. He loved playing the slots, listening to talk radio, and following football and baseball. He enjoyed conversation and the company of friends, and he was fortunate to have many people in his life who cared deeply for him.

Above all, William was a man with a warm and generous heart. He loved his family, cherished his friendships, and lived his life with a gentleness that those around him will never forget.

William's Catholic faith brings comfort to those who mourn his passing. His family takes peace in knowing that he has been called home to his eternal rest and is reunited with those who went before him. We entrust him to the loving mercy of God and hold firmly to the hope of eternal life.

William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alvidine Baptista; his mother, Lucy Baptista; his father, Joe Baptista Jr.; his brother, Joe Baptista; and his sister, Marie Fritzler.

He is survived by his daughter, Antonia Jorge; his stepchildren, Alicia, Bryci, and Lance; his five grandchildren; his sister, Greta Pickens; and his brothers, Louis Baptista and Jerry Baptista.

William leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind the love he gave so freely, the friendships he nurtured, the beauty he created through his art, and the countless lives he touched simply by being the kind and gentle man he was.

Though his family and friends will deeply feel his absence, they can take comfort in knowing that his earthly journey is complete and that he now rests peacefully in the arms of his Creator.

His life was a gift, his memory a blessing, and his love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
